Wind Farms in Africa Aim To Power New Era of Clean Reliable Energy While Saving a Billion Tons of CO2

Senegal is preparing to take a large step in the emerging market of African renewable energy with the construction of the 340 million euro Taliba N’diaye Wind Farm. Almost all of the 46 wind turbines planned for the site have been completed, with the first trickle of totally renewable energy finally flowing into the capital […]

2020 may be the year that young people finally decide who wins elections

In a discussion of the film “The Irishman” and its digitally de-aged actors, Nitsuh Abebe of The New York Times writes about the dominance of the baby boomers. Consider our nation: The president is in his 70s, as are his…

Almost half of Denmark's electricity in 2019 came from wind power

Denmark is only about half the size of South Carolina, but it produces more of its electricity from wind than any other country in the world. That’s not because it’s a particularly breezy country; it has pretty ordinary average wind…

Sustainable supply of minerals and metals key to a low-carbon energy future

(University of Sussex) The global low-carbon revolution could be at risk unless new international agreements and governance mechanisms are put in place to ensure a sustainable supply of rare minerals and metals, a new academic study has warned.

Report: Dem’s Fracking Ban Would Be ‘Catastrophic’ To US Economy

Most of the top Democratic presidential contenders have called for eliminating hydraulic fracturing, but such a ban would be “catastrophic” for the U.S. economy, according to a report released Thursday. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Energy Institute found that…

Wind Energy Is Not Renewable, Sustainable Or Climate-Friendly

Wind turbines continue to be the most controversial of so-called “renewable” energy sources worldwide.  But, you say, wind energy is surely renewable. It blows intermittently, but it’s natural, free, renewable and climate-friendly. That’s certainly what we hear, almost constantly. However,…

Supporting structures of wind turbines contribute to wind farm blockage effect

(American Institute of Physics) Much about the aerodynamic effects of larger wind farms remains poorly understood. New work in this week’s Journal of Renewable and Sustainably Energy looks to provide more insight in how the structures necessary for wind farms affect air flow. Using a two-scale coupled momentum balance method, researchers theoretically and computationally reconstructed conditions that large wind farms might face in the future, including the dampening effect that comes with spacing turbines close to one another.

For Climate Extremists, Bird-Chopping Wind Blades Are A-Okay

Earlier this month I participated in a climate interview in which I mentioned peer-reviewed research finding wind turbines kill more than one million birds and bats each year in the United States. The host of the program did not seem…

Germany’s Wind Industry Faces Extinction, Thousands Of Jobs Lost

Online site wind energy proponent site, Energiezukunft.eu here presents a commentary telling why Germany is seeing ever-increasing resistance to wind energy projects and how the wind industry could be seeing the final nail in its coffin. Behind the mounting resistance…

Boosting wind farmers, global winds reverse decades of slowing and pick up speed

In a boon to wind farms, average daily wind speeds are picking up across much of the globe after about 30 years of gradual slowing. Research shows that wind speeds in northern mid-latitude regions have increased by roughly 7% since 2010.
