Global warming found to be slowing down in new study – TweakTown

A team of researchers has found a new mechanism that can impact the rate of human-induced global warming. VIEW GALLERY – 2 IMAGES The new study was published in the journal Nature Climate Change by a team of researchers from…

Intensified Water Cycle Slows Down Global Warming – Eurasia Review

A new study led by scientists at the University of Miami (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, in collaboration with scientists at Princeton University, shows that the intensification of global hydrological cycle drives more ocean heat uptake into…

Welcome to Our Extreme World – Fair Observer

Admittedly, I hadn’t been there for 46 years, but old friends of mine still live (or at least lived) in the town of Greenville, California, and now, well, it’s more or less gone, though they survived. The Dixie Fire, one of…

Climate Change is “Supercharging” Tropical Cyclones Like Ida – Discover Magazine

As I’m writing this on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 28th, Hurricane Ida is bearing down on the Louisiana coast just south of New Orleans. Churning over unusually warm waters, it is expected to strengthen into a monster Category 4…

To Prevent Worst-Case Climate Future, Governments Must Act Now – The Pew Charitable Trusts

Editor’s Note: This was updated on August 16, 2021 to highlight the science of the report findings. Longer heat waves, more intense rainfall, rising sea levels, and melting ice caps are some of the effects of climate change that are happening now and almost…

A Major Report Warns Climate Change Is Accelerating And Humans Must Cut Emissions Now – NPR

People evacuate from a wildfire north of Athens, Greece, on Friday. A climate-driven heat wave helped create conditions for the fire to burn out of control. Scientists warn that humans are running out of time to curb greenhouse gas emissions…

Review evaluates the evidence for an intensifying Indian Ocean water cycle

(Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) The Indian Ocean has been warming much more than other ocean basins over the last 50-60 years. While temperature changes basin-wide can be unequivocally attributed to human-induced climate change, it is difficult to assess whether contemporary heat and freshwater changes in the Indian Ocean since 1980 represent an anthropogenically-forced transformation of the hydrological cycle. What complicates the assessment is factoring in natural variations, regional-scale trends, a short observational record, climate model uncertainties, and the ocean basin’s complex circulation.

Arctic sea ice disappearing fast

Above image, from the National Institute of Polar Research in Japan, shows Arctic sea ice extent at a record low for the time of year, on July 4, 2021, at 8.4 million km². Subsequently, the NSIDC also indicated that Arctic sea ice…

Heatwaves and the danger of the Arctic Ocean heating up

Heatwaves and Jet Stream Changes Heatwaves are increasingly hitting higher latitudes, as illustrated by the forecasts below. The background behind this is that the temperature rise caused by people’s emissions is also causing changes to the jet streams.  [ click…
