EV owners we surveyed almost equally prefer a sedan/hatchback (car) or SUV/crossover for their next EV. The two options switched spots back and forth depending on the audience. Additionally, in each of these countries, respondents mostly preferred a vehicle in the D-segment
Probably the most interesting question we asked in these surveys was one of the simplest: “What do you think your next EV model will be?” It is particularly interesting because it gives us a strong sense of where the market is headed, and combined with answers to some other questions (see the next chapter), it also tells us a bit about which features and specs matter the most to EV buyers

Tesla’s Q4 2019 earnings call sent the stock into orbit during after-hours trading and in subsequent days. Meanwhile, I was furiously taking notes during the company’s conference call, which had engaging questions from retail investors (via the innovative SAY.com platform), and assorted Wall Street analysts.
We were curious whether EV ownership/leasing correlated with rooftop solar panel ownership, and also whether driving an EV encouraged people to drive more efficiently or even conserve energy more at home, so we surveyed thousands of EV owners. Guess what the results were
When asked for the top reasons the EV drivers got their cars, we got similar responses as in previous years. The largest portion of buyers in every group referenced the environmental benefits. As before, Tesla buyers in the various markets were more likely to select “fun & convenience” and “I love new tech” than other EV drivers
The end-of-incentives hangover deepened in August for the Chinese plug-in vehicle market, with the market dropping a steep 12% year over year (YoY) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) crashing 51%. Amazingly, fully electric vehicles (BEVs) managed to grow, by 4%, a small increase over the 1% growth rate of July, which means BEVs are currently the only ray of light in the Chinese auto market (the overall market also dropped, by 8% YoY)
Tesla has agreed to source battery cells for the Model 3 cars it makes at Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai from LG Chem. The cells will be made in China. CATL and Panasonic may also provide battery cells in the future.
