US Tesla Sales Up 22% In 3rd Quarter, US Auto Sales Down 9%

As everyone knows, the automobile industry has been slammed in 2020, including in the United States. Below is a look at third quarter auto sales across the country as well as auto sales in the first three quarters of the year

Tesla Model 3 Dominates US Premium-Class Small & Midsize Car Market — 23% of 2019 Sales

The Tesla Model 3 continued to hog the throne on top of the US premium-class car market at the end of 2019. For the full year, the Model 3 accounted for 23% of small and midsize luxury car sales. In other words, nearly 1 out of every 4 small or midsize luxury cars sold in 2019 was a Tesla Model

US Gas Vehicle Sales Up Big In November, Still Down In 2019

Tracking monthly US auto sales by company or brand is one of the oddest-feeling things I’ve done in my decade or so covering cleantech. Perhaps that’s because the focus is on tracking non-clean tech. The fact is, though, it shocks me every month to see how many people still buy gasoline cars. Gasoline cars are far worse than electric cars currently on the market for the same cost (or even less). Nonetheless, there are so many people buying clunky, noisy, slow, high-maintenance, low-tech, high-depreciation gasoline vehicles every single day. Objectively, it doesn’t make sense

Nissan, Toyota, Infiniti, & MINI USA Sales Down In October & 2019; Hyundai, Kia, Honda, BMW, Genesis, & Volvo Sales Up

Tracking monthly US auto sales has been a fascinating endeavor this past year. Unfortunately, we don’t get data from some brands — Tesla, all Ford Motor Company brands, GM brands, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brands, Jaguar Land Rover no longer report monthly sales. However, there are 17 brands that do report monthly US sales, so let’s have a look at them

What's the best car for older drivers?

That’s my late mom’s 2000 Toyota Echo, with her 45-year-old vintage license plates. It’s a four-generation car; she drove it into her 90s, then I drove it for a few years and now my daughter drives it with her brand…

Foreign Automakers Increase Sales By 7,855 In July In USA, US Automakers Don’t Report Sales

I may need to cancel my fun, popular, and extremely time consuming monthly reports for US auto sales. One by one, US automakers have stopped publishing monthly sales data. At this point, there are almost as many brands not reporting sales as there are reporting them

US Auto Sales Down For Audi, Honda, Infiniti, Mercedes, Nissan, & Toyota In 2019

We won’t have US sales figures for Tesla, Ford, and GM for another month — and even then we’ll have to estimate how they were split out across the quarter — but we know one thing for sure: Tesla’s sales are up heavily compared to the same period in 2018. For other automakers, not so much

Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes, Acura, Audi, & Infiniti Sales Drop In USA In April

It’s time for another monthly checkup on US auto sales. Surprisingly, more than a million people are still buying the 21st century equivalent of horses every month. I think the most interesting takeaway, though, is quickly running through the companies and car divisions that saw their sales drop last month (compared to the same month in 2018) and then the companies and car divisions that saw their sales rise

14 Automakers + 8 Additional Car Brands See Sales Drops In USA

Now that we’ve got a truly mass market electric car in the US (the 13th best selling car in the country in the first quarter of 2019 and the best selling luxury car), I’ve found it interesting to take a closer look at changes in all automakers’ overall car and automobile sales. I meticulously track changes from month to month and quarter to quarter using automaker sales reports for this purpose

Tesla = 15% Of Luxury Car Sales In USA

Tesla didn’t win the title of top selling luxury car producer in the first quarter of 2019 in the USA, and also didn’t top the list of luxury automakers (cars + SUVs/CUVs/trucks). Nonetheless, the Silicon Valley company stayed on the podium despite a 50% cut in the federal EV tax credit for Tesla buyers and despite the fact that most Tesla vehicles were shipped abroad (with the Model 3 making it overseas for the first time)
