Cuyahoga County among Ohio counties where residents are most concerned about climate change – Yale study – cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – While more than 50% of the people in most Ohio counties believe in climate change and its effects on the environment and the future, in some places, such as Cuyahoga County, people are far more concerned than others, according to data from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.
Nationally, 72% of Americans believe global warming is happening. But when comparing counties, attitudes and opinions about climate change can vary drastically.
The Yale Program on Climate Change Communications study developed a statistical model based on a national survey dataset. Questions that were asked included if a person thought that global warming was happening, if global warming is affecting the weather in the United States, if global warming was affecting them personally, if they heard about global warming in the media, and if Congress is doing enough to address global warming.
Six counties in Ohio had more people worried about climate change than the state average of 61%. These counties were Mahoning, Hamilton, Lucas, Cuyahoga, Athens, and Franklin. Fifty percent of the population or less of 12 counties were not concerned about climate change.
Cuyahoga County residents generally believed in global change and the need to enact policy change to address the issue and prevent further environmental harm. In the county, 35% discussed global warming occasionally, and 33% said they see it discussed in the media at least once a week.
Stacker compiled a list of counties most concerned about climate change by the percentage of residents worried about global warming using data from the Yale study.
