Extent of global warming was predicted 50 years ago – The Times

Many people find it baffling that global temperatures can be predicted decades ahead when forecasting the weather for a week or more can be challenging, but that is the difference between climate and weather. Exactly 50 years ago an astonishing prediction was made by John Sawyer at the Met Office. He said the world would warm by 0.6C by the end of the 20th century because of man-made CO2 and the greenhouse effect. It was remarkably accurate — by 2000 the globe actually warmed by 0.5C.
