Glass of Norwegian? Global warming brings a new wine to the table – The Times

Chablis, champagne or Château Sognefjord? A vineyard nestled on the banks of Norway’s largest fjord says it is ready to sell its wine to the world thanks to eight years of experiments and the effects of global warming.

Bjorn Bergum, 69, who runs Slinde Vineyard with his partner Halldis, says they have discovered the perfect blend of grapes for their white wine. This year they want to take their venture to the next level by producing 3,000 bottles from the mountainous inlet known as the “King of the Fjords”.

The Bergums put the success of their wine, which has already won local awards, down to one of the biggest threats facing humanity.
