The Rotary Club of Carson City to discuss global warming – Nevada Appeal

Are you concerned about global warming? If so, considering attending the Rotary Club of Carson City meeting this Tuesday, April 5th at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. Rotarian Chas Macquarie will give a presentation on the impacts of global warming on Nevada and on Rotary programs both at home and internationally.

“Too much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses are being put into the atmosphere,” he says. “I’m going to talk about recent national and international progress in GHG reduction; and describe ways to avoid the worst impacts of a warming planet.” Macquarie will also discuss its impact on Rotary Projects. “A warming world will affect many of Rotary’s humanitarian projects around the world, from malaria transmission prevention in Africa to a water quality project in Panama which is the Carson Club’s 2022 international project.”

Macquarie, a civil engineer by profession, is the former CEO of Lumos & Associates, a local civil engineering, planning, surveying, and materials testing firm. He has designed sustainable infrastructure for more than 30 years. He is a founding member of Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City, and is the 2014 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board in honor of his work supporting bicyclists and pedestrians.
