Joseph H. Balocca: We can save ourselves from global warming – Vallejo Times-Herald

I have lived on or near the water for most of my life and I watch the tide come in and go out almost every day. I placed a white pipe in the mud sticking straight up and notice where the water line reaches the top mark. It is easy to see because the algae cannot grow any higher than the high watermark.

But lately, I have noticed that the water level is going higher than usual. I talked to some friends about this and some of them seem to think that global warming is pure propaganda. I am here to tell you that sea levels are rising — at an alarming rate. And anyone who has a brain can see that we are in a prolonged drought.

What can we do about it? Conserving water is one way to help, but that by itself will not be enough to avert the oncoming disaster. I tried to argue with this guy — with no success. He does not want to listen to the facts, insisting that it is all a big lie. I had to stop arguing with him because he does not want to see the evidence in front of him. I shudder to think how many more are thinking like him.

We may all be doomed with nowhere to run and time is running out. Do I sound like the sky is falling as in the children’s storybook? Therein lies the reason for this letter. Hopefully, some of you will read this and take it to heart. Do not bury your head in the sand. Do your part no matter how small because every little bit done now helps to save us all.
