Climate Minions Swarm Sen. Schumer’s NYC Office, Want Green New Deal Passed
Seven people were arrested while rallying outside of Sen. Chuck Schumer’s Midtown office in support of Green New Deal climate legislation, according to police and photographs from the demonstration.
Approximately 300 people attended the rally around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in front of the Senate minority leader’s New York City office on Third Avenue near East 48th Street, where five women and two men from activist group Sunrise NYC were carted away, according to police and social media postings.
Details of their arrests and charges were not immediately available.
The group identifies itself on Twitter as “a movement of young people uniting to stop climate change and make it a priority in US politics.”
Photographs posted to Twitter show demonstrators sitting and standing in front of the entrance to the building, with a sign that reads “Green New Deal” placed at their feet.
“Despite calling out Republicans for not having a climate plan @SenSchumer has failed to show real climate leadership and support a #GreenNewDeal,” tweeted activist @leemzee along with several pictures.
“@sunrisemvmtnyc is outside his office now demanding he listen to New Yorkers & co-sponsor the GND.”
